Picture the stereotypical grandmother – warm, kind, loving, always cooking – that was my grandma. Marie DiMaggio (yes we are related to Joe. No I can’t play baseball) was an incredible cook, chef, and baker.
It’s been 23 years since my grandparents moved from their house in Fredonia but I can still picture every room in that home, especially the kitchen. One of my most vivid memories was making donuts with grandma and wearing a little red apron decorated with tiny white flowers.
Grandma wasn’t just a great cook. She was a gourmet chef and she taught a class at the Chautauqua BOCES. She called it Marie’s Creative Kitchen. I am incredibly fortunate to have two binders full of her recipes. For years they have sat in my basement. The ditto reproductions slowly fading (sadly they have lost that great ditto copy smell).
Now I want to share her recipes with everyone. There are recipes from family members, neighbors, and recipes she learned while touring Italy.
We’ll start with three of my favorites. Whether you are getting together with your family for Christmas or New Year’s these are going to be a big hit.
