Boring headshots are the bane of my existence. When the email came from Splyce for some updated portraits, I did a little dance. (If you don’t know who Splyce is, they are an esports team located in Rochester, NY. They competitively play video games like Call of Duty and League of Legends.) They were looking for photos that would help differentiate them from the other teams with the standard esports pose. My goal was to have some fun and still be professional with the headshots. The group that I was photographing was their head office, so not the players but I still wanted to incorporate the team colors and flair. So I pulled in the awesome mural that Mr. Pvrt had painted for them and threw in some accent lighting. As they each stepped in front of the camera I coached out their personality.
